Ben Onuoha, Community Africa at ConsenSys

Ben has an MBA from the Wits Business School of the University of the Witswatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and has over 10 years of diverse experience in tech startups, community building, project management, healthcare and international development. He currently works at ConsenSys as Community Lead for Africa where his responsibilities include developing and managing strong relationships in the public and private sectors as well as developer communities to bring stakeholders together and educate them on Blockchain specifically Ethereum. He is also the Founder of the Africa Blockchain Alliance which is a non-profit focused on educating Africans on blockchain and networking blockchain actors on the continent. Ben’s areas of interest are in innovation/emerging technology, youth leadership and entrepreneurship ecosystems development. Ben is further interested in how new and emerging technologies such as blockchain can create a more inclusive, diverse and fair society.

 

Eseoghene Mentie - QA Manager, uPort – ConsenSys

Ese has a background in computer science with over 10 year’s experience in building, deploying and supporting quality enterprise, payment & SaaS products across West Africa and Asia. She is highly passionate about quality, test engineering, and continuous improvement, and currently advocates for its presence in all facets of technology. She believes in the positive change that blockchain technologies will bring to Africa. Ese currently advocates for quality product releases at uPort and ConsenSys and also supports users/ developers. When not tapping away at her computer, she loves karaoke and is a fan of swimming/Japanese anime.

 

Joshua Cassidy – Co-founder and Technical Lead, Kauri – ConsenSys

Josh is the technical lead of the Kauri spoke at ConsenSys and has ten year’s experience delivering software solutions in the financial industry. Josh moved to Consensys to participate in the development of the Ethereum ecosystem. Using his software engineering background, he aims to build next-generation software platforms and marketplaces which redefine how value is determined, controlled and transferred, ensuring rewards are captured by value creators.

 

Abubaker Mayanja, Executive Director, Africa Blockchain Alliance 

Abubaker is the Executive Director and member of the Advisory Board at Africa Blockchain Alliance, with consulting experience in Business Strategy and Planning, Project Management, Digital Financial Services Data Science and Economics. A practising Investment Banker Skilled in; structuring financing, Corporate valuation and Infrastructure project finance such as PPP JV Real Estate in Nigeria and Coal to energy concession plant in Botswana. Fund Management, Private Equity, Mergers and Acquisitions. Knowledge of Financial Markets and Institutions. 

He has been involved in advising and operations of blockchain projects such as; Veritaseum, RAIR Blockchain and Metrolince. Previously he served as CEO of UAP financial Services a multi-National Licensed Member of Uganda Securities Exchange and was Research fellow at the Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC). Business Development Consultant at True African[Fintech and Payments Aggregator] Developed National and Sub-national government financial Instruments and products for home ownership housing industry in Uganda under the Central Bank of Uganda’s Financial Markets development programme. 

 

Shem Asefaw, Chief Rainmaker, blueMoon Advisory

Shem is a Tech evangelist and investor. 

He personally owns equity in three companies in Ethiopia and one in Kenya. His education and work background is in digital information systems. Hence, he likes to work with innovative and disruptive businesses that have high impact and can accelerate change. Examples are RIDE in Ethiopia and UTU Technologies in Kenya. He is also a shareholder at blueMoon through which together with his business partner, Dr Eleni, they have incubated and invested in 33 companies. With a plan to develop 300 businesses in 5 years. 

Prior to all of this and for many years, he was a Global Partner at Mercer responsible for a practice that commercializes emerging technologies. He counts a significant number of Fortune 500/1000 companies as clients. Over the years he has worked with many global organizations in all sectors across continents.
